Scene Tracker

A simple loop for running a solo session one scene at a time: set the scene, ask the oracle, write what happened, then close it and let the tension rise or fall. Tension decides how often the next scene opens with a twist.

The scene loop

  1. Set the scene. Say where your character is and what they want right now. Picture how you expect it to go.
  2. Check for a twist. Start the scene and the dice decide whether it opens as you pictured or with a twist. The chance is the tension times ten: 30% at tension 3, 60% at the top.
  3. Ask and resolve. Ask the oracle yes/no questions, roll your game's checks with the dice roller, and write a few lines about what happened.
  4. Close the scene. Did things get worse for your character, or did they gain control? Worse raises the tension, better lowers it. A string of bad scenes makes the world feel less predictable, and a run of wins calms it down.
  5. Keep the story. Add finished scenes to your Campaign Notebook journal, then set the next scene.

Why scenes help in solo play

Without a game master, it is easy to drift from moment to moment with no shape. Thinking in scenes gives every stretch of play a start, a question and an ending, and it tells you when to cut to the next interesting moment instead of narrating every step. The twist check keeps you honest: even the scene you planned can surprise you.

When a twist appears, decide what is different, or ask the oracle, draw a card or roll a random event to find out. It helps to think like your character when you decide what they do about it.

This tracker is an original, system-neutral tool. It works with any game, uses no rules from any published game, and keeps everything on your device.
