Wyvern Generator

Two legs, two wings and a barbed tail, a wyvern is a dragon's smaller, angrier cousin. It cannot speak and cannot be bargained with, but it can be outrun, outlasted or outsmarted.

What it is

Wyverns are territorial flyers that hunt from the sky and nest on high, hard-to-reach crags. They are more beast than mind, driven by hunger and fury at anything near their nest.

Where it lives

Cliffs, mountain passes, sea stacks and old towers whose tops nobody can reach any more.

Using it in solo play

A wyvern is a terrain problem: open ground is deadly, cover is life. Ask the oracle whether it has seen you yet, and track how far you are from shelter.

Use whatever numbers your game gives a creature like this; the roller supplies the story. Pair it with the yes/no oracle to decide how it reacts, and save anything worth remembering to your notebook.
