What it is

A kelpie is a water spirit that takes the shape of a horse, and sometimes of a stranger, to lure people into deep water. It is cunning, patient and very hard to escape once it has hold of you.

Where it lives

Lochs, deep rivers, fords and dark pools, especially where a drowning was never explained.

Using it in solo play

Make the kelpie a temptation: it offers something the hero badly needs, like a fast crossing or a mount. Ask the oracle if the hero notices the wet mane or the weeds before it is too late.

Use whatever numbers your game gives a creature like this; the roller supplies the story. Pair it with the yes/no oracle to decide how it reacts, and save anything worth remembering to your notebook.
