Skeleton Generator

Ink sketch of a skeleton

Bones held together by an old command, skeletons do not tire, do not sleep and do not forget the last order they were given. The question is never how to fight one, but why it is still standing guard.

What it is

A skeleton is the remains of someone bound to a task long after death: to guard a door, to march a route, to keep anyone from reading a certain stone. It has no will of its own, only that task.

Where it lives

Tombs, old battlefields, sunken chapels, and any place where a promise or a curse outlived the people who made it.

Using it in solo play

Decide what order the skeleton is following, or ask the oracle. Many can be passed rather than fought, if you understand the order. When they fall, ask whether they get up again.

Use whatever numbers your game gives a creature like this; the roller supplies the story. Pair it with the yes/no oracle to decide how it reacts, and save anything worth remembering to your notebook.
