World Builder

Build a small world in five steps: pick a theme, the lands, a handful of cities, how people feel and the groups that want something. You get a one-page world sheet and a map you can print or save.

How the World Builder works

Each step asks one question about your world, and every step has a Surprise me button if you would rather let the dice decide. You choose a theme, which sets the names and mood. You choose the regions, which are the kinds of land: forest, coast, desert and more. You choose how many cities to place, how the citizens feel, and what kinds of factions are at work. Then the builder writes a world sheet and draws a map with roads between the cities.

The same choices and the same world code always give the same world, so you can share a link and a friend sees exactly what you see. Re-roll the names for a fresh set without changing your choices.

How to use your world in solo play

A world does not need every detail. Fill in only what your story touches, and let the oracle and the dice add the rest as you go.

  1. Start small. Pick one city for your hero to arrive in. You can ignore the rest of the map until you travel.
  2. Give your hero a reason to be there. Roll a character concept or a quest hook and tie it to a faction on the sheet.
  3. Ask the oracle about the world. Questions like "Does the guild control this town?" or "Is the road safe?" turn the sheet into a living place. Use the oracle twists when it says "and...".
  4. Treat factions as the people you meet. When a stranger appears, ask the five questions, and let their want connect to a faction.
  5. Make journeys count. Use the travel questions for each region you cross, and match the sound with that region's ambience link.
  6. Keep the map in front of you. Print it and keep it beside your notebook, then mark the places you have visited with a pencil. Write short entries in a journal.
  7. Let the world change. When something big happens, cross out a line on your printout and write the new truth. A world that changes feels alive.

Saving, printing and sharing

Nothing is uploaded. Saved worlds live in your own browser on your own device, and you can download a text version, a world file you can open again later, or print the sheet and map from the browser's print dialog (choose Save as PDF to keep a copy). Clearing your browser data removes saved worlds, so download the file if a world matters to you.

Sound for your world

Each region on the sheet links to a matching soundscape, and the cities link to market and city night sound. The sound is generated live in your browser, so there is nothing to download.
